El acercamiento más completo que se ha realizado hasta ahora a la Abadía del Sacromonte. Riguroso, exhaustivo, es sobre todo un libro bello, con una fotografía extraordinaria que nos hace conocer de manera muy directa la verdad más profunda de la Abadía. El volumen está estructurado en tres partes. El Arzobispo de Granada, Francisco Javier Martínez Fernández, explica el significado de este lugar “como gracia y tensión hacia la unidad”. A continuación, dos profesores de la Universidad de Granada, el catedrático Miguel Luis López-Guadalupe Muñoz y José Policarpo Cruz Cabrera, firman los capítulos central y final del texto, respectivamente. El primero relata la gestación de este centro de peregrinación consagrado a San Cecilio, mártir de la época romana, cuyos restos se descubrieron en este lugar a finales del siglo XVI. Cruz Cabrera cierra las páginas del libro con un recorrido por las piezas más emblemáticas del patrimonio artístico abacial, que constituye el trabajo más amplio y completo realizado hasta el momento.

The most comprehensive exploration of Sacromonte Abbey so far. Rigorous and thorough, this is first and foremost a beautiful book, displaying stunning pictures that bring us face to face with the deepest truth of the abbey. The volume is structured in three parts. Mons. Francisco Javier Martínez Fernández, Archbishop of Granada, opens it with an explanation of the meaning of this place “as grace and tension towards unity”. Next, two faculty members of the University of Granada, Prof. Miguel Luis López-Guadalupe Muñoz and José Policarpo Cruz Cabrera, author the central and final chapters of the book, respectively. The former recounts the origins of this pilgrimage site consecrated to Saint Cecil, martyr during the Roman era, whose mortal remains were discovered in this very place at the end of the 16th century. While Cruz Cabrera’s concluding chapter takes us on an exhilarating tour through the most emblematic pieces of the abbatial artistic heritage, in what can be safely deemed as the most extensive and exhaustive work thus far elaborated in this regard.
